Race Report: Lavonia goes Memorial Day Racing

Westmorland grabs memorable win in Thunder Bomber as 602 crate fields 17 cars.

On the Monday Memorial Day Holiday, there still was racing to he had across the Southeast. Lavonia held a Memorial Day celebration which saw folks and drivers pack n before the work began anew.

Thunder Bombers made a rare appearance across the state line. It was to be a memorable night for the 66 of Johnny Westmorland who not only won his heat but also powered his way to the main event win, finally ended a rough streak the team had been on. Taylor Johnson was 2nd, Dylan Chappell was 3rd, Dwight Smith 4th, and Scott Pulley 5th.

602 Crates fielded the largest amount of cars with a total of 17 going green. David Smith won in the 11 over John Price in 2nd, Lance Chitwood in 3rd, Logan Stinchcomb in 4th, and Shun Thomas in 5th.

Front Wheel Drive was a match race between Travis Jamieson and Wayne Glenn. Jamieson won handly by a whopping 14 seconds.

Fresh off a 25 lap 4 cylinder main at Laurens on Saturday, Billy Evans drove his 32 to the win over Justin Taylor in 2nd, Jamie Massey in 3rd, Elliott Brayboy in 4th, and a superb performance for 17 year old Zak Brown in 5th.

SECA 604 Late Models would have Adam Smith furiously fending off Blake Craft until Craft in the 01 spun in Turn 1 to avoid contact. Smith would win over Parker Herring who made a good run, Banjo Duke in 3rd, David McCoy 4th, and Ron Geehring 5th.

Open Wheel Modifeds were no challenge for Cody Overton in the Buffalo Bar and Grill #14 who won by 9 seconds over Dean Noseworthy, Russell Baker in 3rd, and Chase Baird 4th.

Modified Street capped off the night with a Victory by Sterling Helm. Smokey Roberts took 2nd, Todd Hammond 3rd, Jake Delong in 4th, and Daniel Doster in 5th.

Lavonia has a quick turnaround as they will host the USCS Sprint Cars and 602 Thunder Series this coming Friday May 31st.
