Race Report: Big 3 Series howls down in Georgia

B. Scruggs adds Big Shot to Hat Trick Saturday in GKK Revival

July 20, 2019-Carnesville, GA

The Grorgia Karting Komplex had sat idle for the better part of 2019 but that ended last weekend as the Big 3 Series rumbled down 85 to the spacious complex for another set of Big Shot Races, this time for Pro Junior 2 and Pro 425. The Georgia heat was also in attendance but showed up late after breaking through some early morning cloud cover. Fans and drivers quickly adapted to the temperatures which averaged anywhere between 90-95 with a heat index around 105. Kiddie pools and tents broke out all over as folks tried to stay cool. Several kart fields were well into the double digits with the largest being in Stock Heavy with 23. Some drivers had made the trip from Florida as the entry county ended up at 277 entries for the day.

How it went down

Brad Scruggs (#12) arguably had the best day overall going for a hat trick claiming Super Heavy 410, Super Heavy 425, and the Big Shot Race for 425. Two of those wins he had to fend off Randy Moon (#64) who also had a strong day throughout.

Coletrain Palmer (#25) would lay claim to the other Big Shot win in Pro Junior 2 and double up by also taking Junior 3. Palmer had to hold off a furious charge by Luke Cooper for the Big Shot win.

Other drivers that had strong days were Daniel Simmons (#06) who showed speed early and doubled up with Stock Medium and holding on against powerhouse Tommy Jernigan (#111) in Predator 375. Jernigan however would bounce back later in the program by claiming Pro Predator by over 1 second for the margin of victory. Brayson Riddle (#96), a frequent visitor to Foothills Raceway, doubled down with Junior 1 and Pro Junior 1 including some late race heroics battling with Cameron Lambert (#33) in Junior 1 down to the wire with a margin of victory by .075. Jason Moates (#4) continued his tear through the Big 3 Season by sweeping both Champ classes (Senior and Pro) on the card. Lastly, the Dove flies again as Andrew Dove (#154) went double in a pair of Stock classes with wins in Stock Heavy and Pro Stock. The Big 3 Series returns August 17 at Sugar Tit Speedway in Reidville, SC.
