Race Report: Second Helpings for Turkey Day

Return trips give double wins for Suddeth, Timms, and Stinson

Dacusville, SC-November 22, 2019-By Gray Sutherland

Everyone enjoys a return trip to the kitchen for some more turkey on Thanksgiving and for three drivers, it was second helpings on the buffet at Foothills on Friday night. The Inaugural Thanksgiving Thrown, originally schedule for November 23, was run on Friday night because of heavy rain moving through the I-85 corridor Saturday morning. Still, 78 entries filed to try their luck for special themed turkey checks and $200 guaranteed in Clone 350, Predator 350, and Predator 375. It was also scheduled to be the Winter Points Series Opener but this has been pushed back.

Quick Hits

Track Position was once again key with drivers having to navigate and work with a slick corner exit. Through heat races, Olie Stinson would win multiple heats in Predator 325 and 375. Dale Timms on the 07 would win Clone 425 and 410 heats. The Kunkleracing stable would start off by putting a pair of #50s on the pole for mains with Chevis Bolding in Clone 375 and Magan Kunkle in Flathead. Heat race winners in Predator 350, 375, and Clone 350 at intermission had an option to draw on a field invert. If taken, each position gained en route to the win would net the driver extra bonus money per kart. One driver took the offer, Coby Lambert in Predator 350, and drew a 1. He was still credited with a bonus $10. Ernie Bob kicked off main events by continuing to dominate Clone 450 with Bolding sweeping heat and main for Clone 375. The Dark Horse Dale Timms would work his way to the front over heat winner Stephen Derita and Summer Champion Ernie Bob for the start of his double night. He completed it with a victory at the end of the night with Clone 410. Olie Stinson carried over from the Predator 375 into that main for the win there and completed his double by sweeping through Predator 325 as well. He would be denied the Predator hat trick in 350 by Coby Lambert. Wes Suddeth completed the third double of the night with Clone 325 and Clone 350 surviving an engine protest in 350 post race.

A Look Ahead

Foothills will take Thanksgiving weekend off and will return to racing on December 7th. This is tentatively scheduled to be the Winter Points Opener. This is slated to be Saturday pending future weather.
