Race Report: Anchors Aweigh in January

Four doubles recorded in Grassroots Winter Karting Series 2020 Opener

Cross Anchor, South Carolina-January, 12, 2020

Dodgy weather conditions didn’t sway the 155 entries that packed into Cross Anchor Anchor Raceway this past Sunday as the track returned for its Grassroots Karting Series Race #1 for the new year. Several drivers found success on track as four drivers picked up multiple wins with “The Dark Horse” Dale Timms sweeping through Clone 425 and 450. Drew Curtis grabbed two of the Out of the Box classes in 350 and 375. The highly anticipated Winged Kart classes finally got their chance and Jayden Stone took Purple and Green plate. Adolphus Manucy, known affectionately as Jimmy Jam, took the longest to record his with caution filled features in Clone 375 and Clone 350.

Quick Hits

One of the best races of the night was SPG 350 as it came down to Olie Stinson and Preston Nesbitt vying for the race win. Going into Turn 3 on the last lap, Nesbitt challenged to the inside of Stinson who threw the block. Both drivers showed excellent control by hanging on and Stinson would win on the outside lane by about the front nose piece of his kart. Official margin of victory was 0.019 seconds. Despite only having two katrs, Sealed Box Stock provided a fantastic duel as Nolan Starnes shot by Ben Harrison with a handful of laps left for the win. Junior Predator featured an interesting lineup as the tech room of doom would have a final say and Holden Melton got credit for the win. CJ Smith, a strong competitor for that class finished 2nd, and Kenzie Davis finished 3rd in her debut on track.
